Local Verdict
"A classic high-elevation evergreen with soft, bluish-green needles. Brings a touch of the high Sierra to the upper foothills."
Overview
White Fir, often sold as a Christmas tree, is a majestic conifer native to the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada. In the wild, it grows in cool, moist forests, but it can adapt to garden settings in the upper foothills (above 3,000 ft).
Its soft, blue-green needles are fragrant and citrusy when crushed. It requires more moisture and protection from the afternoon sun than our foothill pines.
