Local Verdict

"The taste of California history. Huge trees that produce two crops a year. Gophers love roots, deer ignore leaves."

Overview

Brought by Spanish missionaries, the Mission Fig is perfectly adapted to our hot summers. It produces a small 'breba' crop in spring and a massive main crop of dark purple, sweet figs in late summer.

The trees can become enormous (30ft+), casting dense shade. They are remarkably drought tolerant once established but fruit best with deep summer watering.

Heavy Pruning: Can be pruned hard in winter to control size and keep fruit reachable.

  • 03.

Harvest Daily: Ripe figs spoil quickly; check the tree every morning in season.
